Jeremy Greenspan und Matt Didemus von Junior Boys kündigen BIG BLACK COAT für den 5. Februar 2016 an. Den Titeltrack lassen die Elektro-Dudes heute schon hören.
Die Junior Boys Jeremy Greenspan und Matt Didemus, die einen Sound irgendwo zwischen R&B, Techno und Popmusik erschufen, sind zurück. Sie kündigen jetzt ihr neues Album BIG BLACK COAT für den 5. Februar 2016 an.
Jeremy Greenspan lebt in Hamilton, Ontario, ist dort der inoffizielle Bürgermeister und arbeitet wohl rund um die Uhr. Er besitzt eine Bar und ein Studio. In diesem Studio hat er diversen Caribou-Hits den letzten Schliff verpasst („Bowls“ zum Beispiel), mit Jessy Lanza ihr Album PULL MY HAIR BACK produziert und dort ist auch das neue Junior-Boys-Album enstanden. Bandkollege Matt Didemus, seit Jahren in der Techno-Hauptstadt Berlin umtriebig, unter anderem mit seinem Label „Obsession Recordings“, flog mehrere Wochen nach Kanada, um dort wie in alten Zeiten zusammen mit Jeremy ein Album aufzunehmen.
Jeremy Greenspan sagt: „I think I wanted the album to be completely non-conceptual. Which is unlike our last two album that had these weird concepts about films. I decided to keep it simple. that was a philosophy of the album, making sure I didn’t try to do all the super complicated things that I got obsessed with on the last two albums, i feel like i’m over that….for the moment.“
Neue Elemente aus Industrial, Techno und Dubstep fügen sich in den Gesamtsound ein, so minimal, aber auch effektiv wie möglich. Der Titeltrack spiegelt genau das am Besten wider, so Jeremy Greenspan: „It’s a techno track that got turned into a song. this has been the great experience of doing the jiaolong releases. It let me get back to not worrying about songwriting, and just get into production. it still retains much of its techno skeleton. the percussion to me sounded like the fabric of a big winter coat. I also bought a huge winter coat the day I wrote this, hence the name and the lyrics. I wanted the album to capture the feel of my nowheresville post-industrial city in the winter. I find it inspiring.“
